There are times when an email arrives and makes me squeal with excitement. When we received an invitation to visit the grand opening of the new expansion to Thomas Land UK, this definitely counted as one of those moments. I’m not sure who was more excited, the children or us grown ups to be honest!
For those of you familiar with Thomas Land UK at Drayton Manor Park, the area that has been developed is roughly around where the Jeremy Jet ride operated from. Jeremy is still there, but wow, what a transformation has been performed on the surrounding space. There are now three brand new rides to enjoy as well as a cafe and traditional entertainment.
On arrival we were greeted by the sight of three new rides, two of which involved water-obviously my two were instantly drawn towards these and and made a determined beeline for the queuing! Captain’s Sea Adventure and Flynn’s Fire and Rescue proved extremely popular 🙂
I can promise you that both rides are so much fun-yes I ‘had’ to go on both. The Flynn’s Fire and Rescue ride involves standing on the platform and aiming water at targets as you go up and down-and yes, there is a lot of water splash back which adds to the fun. For those less keen on standing on the platform (including my son), there are opportunities to sit in the cab and drive, which he absolutely loved.
The Captain’s Sea Adventure also involves shooting water at everyone-a lot of fun and I received several blasts straight to the face. Both of these make really good additions to the fun. You spin around whilst aiming your water cannons at anyone and everyone! My son thoughts it looked too fast to go on and opted out at the last minute but it really wasn’t a fast ride at all. We tried to persuade him to go on but he was having none of it-maybe next time.
Unfortunately Toby’s Tram Express had developed a bit of first day nerves and was unavailable for us to ride, but to be honest I don’t think either of my children would have been too keen on it-it involves motion both upwards and around. Apart from my husband, no one has a thrill seeking gene!
There are traditional games to try like hook a duck, and the Sodor Airport Cafe is beautifully designed. It has the air of an art deco cafe and provides another useful eating option. There is a balcony which will provide visitors with amazing views over the new expansion as well as Thomas Land itself.
And Jeremy jet is still there, in prime position for you to enjoy the new expansion to its full.
On a practical note, I can also highly recommend the new toilets-a decent amount of cubicles and plenty of space. In my experience this makes them a really welcome addition as the other toilets nearby have definitely seen better days I think.
I would have thoroughly recommended a visit to Thomas Land even before the new expansion, but the additions of water rides and the new cafe have really added a lovely extra touch and value to what was already a fun day out. And of course, you get access to the rest of the park too when you visit, so I really do think it offers very good value for money. It’s our
